Ways Palmerdale Methodist reaches out …

  • Food Pantry. The Food Pantry is open the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of the month from 9 AM – noon. We serve people in the Pinson, Palmerdale and Remlap zip codes. It is staffed and funded by volunteers in our church. Call the office at 681-9762 if you’d like more info. (Dates change in November, December and January because of holiday activities.)
  • Clothes Closet. Open at the same time as the Food Pantry. People are welcome to get a couple of bags of clothing for free.
  • Fish & Loaves team. We help feed the homeless in downtown Birmingham the first Sunday afternoon of each month. Sometimes different groups from our church go to help. The group meets around 3:30 in the afternoon to prepare the meal and then leaves at 5:30 to head downtown.
  • Prayer Shawl Ministry. In addition to making Prayer Shawls, these ladies also make scarves for the homeless. They make angel gowns for the tiniest babies who were too sick or too small and died before they even had a chance to live. They make baby blankets for Positive Choices and also donate diapers. Pat Wynn, the team leader of this group, says “God is blessing us and we are blessing others in Jesus’ name. If you have sewing, crocheting or knitting skills and would like to join our group, please see me or call the church office at 205-681-9762.”
  • Grief Support Group. This group meets in the fall on Tuesday nights at 6PM. Help and encouragement after the death of a spouse, child, family member, or friend. GriefShare is a special weekly seminar and support group designed to help you rebuild your life after losing a loved one. Our group is led  by caring people who have experienced grief and want to help you through the difficult days ahead. Call the office at 681-9762 to see when the group is meeting next.
  • Children visit a nearby nursing home to share crafts and songs.
  • We have about 60 children attend Vacation Bible School. We reach out to invite the community and many of the children who attend are not members here at our church.
  • Our youth group attend FUGE camp where they worked in several mission projects in the community. Most of our students work with children at a summer day camp. Some students work in a food pantry or help with painting, construction and yard work for people who can’t do the work themselves.
  • Royal Family KIDS Camp. We’ve participated with Royal Family KIDS, Inc. and DHR for 10 years to send hundreds of foster children to a week of summer camp. This is a great way to impact the lives of these precious vulnerable children. We provide swimming, fishing, campfires, lots of outdoor games and activities, and lots of love and acceptance. Every child is given a Bible, and we provide most everything they need for the entire week -pillows, blankets, toiletries, matching T-shirts for each day. We also have “Everybody’s Birthday Party” where each child receives a mini cake with their own name and birthday gifts! We celebrate the end of the week with a Variety Show where all kids are encouraged to share their talents on stage. It’s really an amazing week! The team is all volunteers and we do our own fundraising. You can find more info at https://palmerdale.royalfamilykids.org/
  • Christmas Boxes – With our background of mission work in Haiti, we send Christmas boxes to children there.
